1 June 1964 - The Anamosa Journal

Second traffic fatality in Jones county for 1964 was registered at 10:15 a.m. Monday when Edwin H. Eilers, 20, Monticello, was killed at the north edge of Anamosa in a car-truck crash.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eilers, rural route 2, Monticello, died of injuries received when his chest and head were crushed into a bank at the Dr. Earl Wahl residence, according to attending physician, Dr. Gerald F. Brown.

Mishap occurred when the Eilers car hit the rear and side of the Anamosa Sanitation service truck, owned and driven by George K. Shover, Anamosa.

George Shover told Sheriff Albaugh that he was driving south and beginning to turn into the driveway of the Dr. Earl Wahl residence on the north edge of Anamosa when the accident happened.

Shover said the Eilers auto pulled to the left of the centerline as he began his turn to the left, then tried to pull back. Car hit the right rear of the sanitation truck and scraped the entire right side before continuing on and smacking into bank at the front of the Wahl lawn.

No estimate of damage was available for the truck, Car, a 1957 Chevrolet, was demolished.
