27 April 1964 - The Anamosa Journal

Robert W. McCarthy, 56, former resident of Anamosa, died Tuesday, April 21, at Alliance, Nebr., following a lingering illness.

Funeral service was held Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Anamosa. Rev. J. A. McMahon conducted the service. Burial will be in Wilcox cemetery. McNamara Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers include Maurice Neville, Glen McLaughlin, Gus Schrader, James Wild, Robert Peet and Burrell Fagen.

He was born Sept. 26, 1907, son of William F. McCarthy and Hatte Peet McCarthy, Anamosa. He was married to Laura Nichols at Charles City. He lived his life in Freemont and Alliance, Nebr., and the Anamosa area.

He attended college at Ames and worked as a salesman. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and several salesmen organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Laura; his mother, Mrs. Hattie McCarthy, Anamosa; two daughters, Dixie, Mrs. Charles Easdon, Hutchinson, Kans.; and Miss Barbara McCarthy, Denver, Colo.; a son, Bill McCarthy, Alliance, Nebr.; and three grandchildren.

Other survivors include two brothers, Francis McCarthy, Memphis, Tenn., and Douglas McCarthy, Union Lake, Mich.; and a sister, Mary Carolyn, Mrs. Edward Kousnicka, Atlanta Ga.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1943, and a brother, Melvin, 1919.
