15 August 1963 - The Anamosa Eureka

MARTELLE--Elmer E. James, 52, Martelle, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, Aug. 10, at st. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids. He had been taken to the hospital earlier in the evening, by ambulance, with a heart condition.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Raymond L. Roth, of the Martelle Christian church, did conduct the service. Burial was in Cedar Memorial cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Pallbearers included Lawrence Holcomb, Dillon Holcomb, Lolin Remington, Raymond Miller, James Gotsch and Merle McConaughy.

He was born Sept. 26, 1910, son of Frank James and Dora Bleadhorn James, Grand Mound. He was married to Doris Holcomb, Martelle, Dec. 25, 1931, at Cedar Rapids. Couple made their home in Cedar Rapids one year before moving to the present farm in the Martelle area.

He was a member of the Martelle Elevator board, Christian church board of deacons, Martelle Christian church and Benjamin Franklin lodge, No. 574 A.F.A.M. Lisbon, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; one daughter, Marilyn, Mrs. Dave Etzel, Fort Dodge; one son, Lyle, Anamosa; his mother, Mrs. Dora McNall, Monticello; one sister, Mrs. Colin Tschantz, Monticello; two brothers, Russell, Lisbon; and Walter, Cedar Rapids, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Mrs. Raymond Mallie.
