April 13, 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Catherine Conrad, 80, who died April 10 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Weiss, will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Smykil funeral home.

Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple will have charge of the service. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers are members of the Anamosa fire department.

Catherine Conrad was born in Switzerland, Aug. 9, 1863, and died at the home of her daughter in Anamosa following a long illness. She came to Jones county when a young woman.

She married Christian Conrad March 20, 1883. He died in July, 1931.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Herbert Weiss and Chris Conrad, Anamosa, and George Conrad, Davenport.

Funeral service for Mrs. Catherine Conrad, 80, who died April 10 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Weiss, were held last Thursday afternoon at the Smykil funeral home. Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple conducted the service, and burial was at Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Catherine Conrad, daughter of George and Nellie Strub, was born in Chur, Switzerland, Aug. 9, 1863.

She came to the United States in September, 1883, coming directly to Iowa. In 1884 she married Christian Conrad, who had come to America on the same ship. Four children were born to the union, one of whom died in infancy. Mr. Conrad died in July, 1931.

She was a member of the Congregational Women's society, and of the Evangelical and Reformed church.

Surviving are one sister, Nellie Spect, Switzerland; two brothers, George Strub, New York City, and Lucas Strub, Dubuque; one daughter, Mrs. Herbert Weiss, Anamosa; two sons, Chris, Anamosa, and George, Davenport; and four grandsons, Allen Weiss, Anamosa; James Conrad, Hawaii; Robert Conrad, Fort Bliss, Texas; and Jessrand Conrad, London, England.
