John E. Folkerts, 69, prominent farmer of Wayne township, died Sunday at the John McDonald hospital in Monticello, following a short illness.

Folkerts was born April 18, 1875 in Germany, and came to the United States in 1892. He lived in Wayne township for the remainder of his life.

April 3, 1902 he married Miss Katherine Tobiason, who survives with two sons, Elmer, at home and Lloyd with the U.S. armed forces in Australia; two daughters, Esther and Iola, at home; and two brothers, Alfred, Wayne township and Henry, Willmer, Saskatchewan, Can.

Funeral service was held this Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Goettsch funeral home in Monticello and at 1:30 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church, Rev. F. H. Kehren in charge. Interment was in the cemetery adjoining Wayne Lutheran church. Six nephews served as pallbearers.
