John W. Voss(1929-2021)

John W. Voss, age 91 of Anamosa, Iowa, formerly from Olin, Iowa passed away January 2, 2021 at the Clarence Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Paster Good will conduct the service. A private burial will be at the Olin Cemetery.

John was born January 26, 1929 on a farm near Olin, IA to William & Mabel (Schultz) Voss. He grew up on various farms around Olin where he assisted his father in farming. John graduated in 1946 from Olin High School where he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and 4H.

John married Lorna (Crain) Voss on June 24, 1951. Six weeks later he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. After basic training he was sent to Japan where he was trained to be a Military Policeman and achieved the rank of CPL E4.

John returned from the war in the Fall of 1953. He went back to farming. He and Lorna bought the Harold and Helen Merritt farm along with other farms. John also worked many years as an Olin School Bus driver, Purina Feed Dealer and Farm Bureau Crop Adjuster. He and Lorna built a house in Olin in 1982 and lived there for 27 years before moving to Anamosa. John and Lorna had one daughter Marci Anne Summers, son-in-law Charles Summers, grandson Joshua Summers, granddaughter Felicia Summers, Step-Grandson Derek Summers, Great Grandchildren Jace Summers, Rayanne Zeltner & Beau Summers. The love that he had for his wife, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren was unconditional. He will be remembered every day by his family for always being there when they needed him.

John and Lorna loved golfing, bowling, playing cards and going to the Casino’s. John helped start the “500” card club in 1954 that lasted 50 years.
