Funeral service for Mrs. Charles Ballou was held last Tuesday with the Loder Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Rev. E. O. Sheppard conducted short service at the funeral home. Service was held at the Christian church, Martelle by Rev. Samuel I. Noah, and at the cemetery near Olin by Rev. T. W. Boston.
Singers were Mrs. Glenn Strothers, Mrs. Elmer James, Kenneth Holcomb and Dillon Holcomb, acompanied by Mrs. Clarence Miller. Casket bearers were Willard Lacock, Jack Armstrong, Claire Armstrong, Chester Miller, James Miller and Lawrence Holcomb.
Henrietta Vernon Ballou, daughter of Edward R. and Sarah Vernon, was born in Rome township near Olin, June 30, 1876, and died at her home in Anamosa Feb. 5, 1944 at the age of 67 years.
She married Charles Ballou Oct. 4, 1893. There were three children, two of whom survive, Ralph W., Cedar Rapids and Irza Mae, Anamosa. A daughter, Ena Ellen, died in infancy.
Mrs. Ballou joined the Church of Christ, Olin, in April, 1892 and later transferred to the Church of Christ at Martelle, where she held her membership at the time of her death.
Surviving are her husband, two children, one brother, J. R. Vernon, Peetz, Colo.; three sisters, Mrs. J. R. Easterly, Caldwell, Iowa; Mrs. Mary C. Horton, Salem, Ore.; and Mrs. Walter McCormick, Olin; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
