Margaret Thing age 84 died Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Gardens of Cedar Rapids from complications of Covid 19.
Private family services will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on Goettsch Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Springville Fire and Rescue, Springville United Methodist Church or Covid Relief.
Mask’s must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the funeral home.
Surviving is a son Jeff, Hiawatha, a daughter Julie (Gary) Kline, Williamsburg, 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Luke) Conrad, Andrew Thing, Phillip (Lisa) Kline, Michael Kline., her brother, Paul (Joyce) Havens, Hopkinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Curtis, her granddaughter, Nicole Thing and special friend, Jim Newman.
Margaret J Havens was born September 20, 1936 at Hopkinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Roy and Viola Green, Havens. She graduated from the Hopkinton, Iowa schools in 1956.
Margaret Havens and Curtis Thing were married on October 4, 1959 at the Hopkinton Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids where Margaret worked for Souvenir Pen Company, the couple moved to Springville in 1963 and Margaret worked at the Dairy Treat in Springville. She started working as a dietician at Willow Gardens and later at St. Luke’s Hospital. She retired in 1988. Curtis preceded her in death on April 25, 1998. Margaret moved to Villages in Marion and then to the Gardens in 2017.
Margaret was active in the Springville Community and the Springville Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and played in the bell choir and was a member of the UMW. She helped Curtis with Lions Club projects, served on the Spring House Board and delivered meals on wheels.
