MONTICELLO--Lorance H. Wilken, 53, rural Monticello, died on Tuesday, March 17, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 20, at 1:30 p.m., at Wayne Zion Lutheran church, rural Monticello. Rev. Luther Wachholz will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Wayne cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, has charge of the services.

Pallbearers will include Leslie Doyle, Gerald Doyle, Joe Ladehoff, Irvin Toenjes, James Blunt and Lewis Renken.

He was born Oct. 11, 1910, son of John B. Wilken and Emma Prabel Wilken, Monticello. He was married Feb. 23, 1933, to Dena Lurkens, Owatonna, Minn. He had lived his married life on a farm in Wayne township, rural Monticello.

He attended Jones county rural school. He was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife, Dena; two sons, Adrian J. Wilken, Newport News, Va., and Leon D. Wilken, Anamosa; two daughters, Dorrean, Mrs. William G. Bohlken, Anamosa, and Linda Kay Wilken, and nine grandchildren.

Other survivors include two brothers, Ervin B. Wilken, Anamosa; and Emmund P. Wilken, Monticello; two sisters, Loretta, Mrs. August Dirks, Monticello; and Mayeda, Mrs. George Folkerts, Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Larry.

MONTICELLO--Jones county Sheriff's office is investigating the death of Lorance H. Wilken, 53, a Monticello area farmer who died early Tuesday morning after a Sunday accident on his farm.

Sheriff Ralph Albaugh received a report that Wilken fractured his neck in a fall Sunday night while doing chores in the barn. Mrs. Wilken told authorities her husband went to the barn about 4:30 p.m. and that the accident occurred about 9 o'clock. It was reported he tripped over a rope.

No doctor was called and it was not until Monday at 8:15 a.m. that Wilken was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids. Time of death was listed Tuesday at 1 a.m.
