6 January 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Ed McNamara,80, who died late Wednesday evening at Mercy hospital in Anamosa, will be held at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic church. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the McNamara Funeral home, where the body will be kept until the service.

McNamara was a resident of Cass township.

13 January 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Edward W. McNamara, was conducted Saturday, Jan. 8, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's church, Anamosa, when a solemn requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Francis Phelan, a nephew of deceased, celebrant; Rev. Stephen Kucera, Deacon, and Rev. J. A. McMahon, sub-deacon. Music was by St. Patrick's choir, Leo Loyet, soloist.

Born in Buffalo township, son of John and Ann McNamara on April 12, 1863, he died at Mercy hospital, Jan. 5, after an extended illness, and recently a fractured hip. He was a pioneer farmer and prominent land owner of Jones county, a life-long member of St. Patrick's parish and one of its largest contributors.

On Jan. 12, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Magirl, who receded him in death Nov. 18, 1935.

He is survived by six sons and two daughters, Edward, Ely; Clarence and Dennis, Prairieburg; Louis, Cedar Rapids; William, John and Mrs. Catherine Foley, Anamosa; and Mrs. Leslie Woerth, Sioux City.

Thirty-seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Woods; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth McNamara, Cedar Rapids, also survive.

Three sons, James, Raymond and Thomas, and a daughter, Sister M. Regina of Sisters of Mercy, Cedar Rapids, preceded him in death.

Casket-bearers were John Holub, John Machart, John Hayes, Wes Marek, Lou Yanda, Thomas Hanlon, Mike O'Toole and Phil Daly.

Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery.

McNamara funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
