Funeral service for William Augustus Hale, 83, who died Saturday, Aug. 14, was held at First Congregational church Tuesday, Aug. 17, with Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Smykil's Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hale, son of Augustus Samuel and Myrta Kelsey Hale, was born in a log cabin in Cass township July 15, 1860. He lived all his life in Jones county and has been named as the longest continuous resident of Anamosa.

He married Miss Ida Bell Condit Dec. 10, 1884, and they engaged in farming until 1917 when a serious accident forced Mr. Hale to stop farming, and they moved to Anamosa.

Mr. Hale was known throughout the state as a dealer in imported Percheron horses. He travelled to Europe in connection with the occupation two times, first in 1912 and again in 1914.

He lived an active life until last Aug. 5, when he suffered a severe stroke, which resulted in his death at Mercy hospital Saturday, Aug. 14.

Survivors include his five children, Clifford H. Hale, Edgerton, Wis.; Stanley W. Hale, North Mankato, Minn.; Miss Marian A. Hale, Miss Florence L. Hale, and Mrs. Olive G. Lane, all of Anamosa; one brother, J. K. Hale, Anamosa, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.
