OLIN--Simeon Ballou, a longtime resident of Olin, died at Mercy hospital in Anamosa early Monday morning. Funeral was held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

OLIN--Simeon Ballou, who died June 7 at Mercy hospital at Anamosa at the age of 79, was buried Wendesday of last week.

Funeral service was held at the United Brethren church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. W. T. Boston read the service. Burial was in Olin cemetery.

Simeon Ballou, son of Andrew Ballou and Phyllissa Cole Ballou, was born in Rome township, Jones county, on April 18, 1864. He spent his entire life in Jones county. He attended the rural schools of the county and the public school in Olin.

In 1892, he was baptized and became a member of the Christian church under the pastorate of Rev. DeVol. He was a member so long as it was operative in the community. In July, 1933, he, with his wife, transferred their membership to the Olin United Brethren church.

On Sept. 19, 1886, he was married to Melissa Carter, near Anamosa.

For several years Mr. Ballou served as a member of the board of education and to the day of his death, was interested in every phase of the school's activities.

In 1925, after having spent their whole life on the farm, the Ballous moved to town to retire, but he made their home on the hill in south Olin a garden spot.

On May 21 Mr. Ballou entered Mercy hospital at Anamosa for treatment of an injury, but complications developed and after days of suffering, he died, June 7.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Phoebe Ballou Gardner. Survivors are his wife; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Duntz, Beatrice, Neb.; three brothers, Andrew, Chicago, and Jesse and Charles, Olin; a number of nieces and nephews.
