Funeral service for George D. Brown, 91, Anamosa, who died at his home Wednesday, Feb. 17, was held at the Loder Funeral home last Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. E. Dalrymple in charge. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

George Brown, son of George D. and Mary Halloway Brown, was born in Jones county, Sept. 11, 1852. Mr. Brown held the distinction of being the first white boy to be in the county.

He was married to Jennie Eilich, July 23, 1878. To this marriage were born three children, two of whom preceded him in death. Mrs. Brown died Feb. 23, 1929.

Mr. Brown lived on a farm near Anamosa until he moved to town and bought the Brown hotel which he operated for 23 years. After selling the hotel he bought a little home near the hotel and lived there until he sold it to Dr. Fred Sigworth.

Survivors are his daughter, Mrs. Frank Hart, Anamosa; a brother, James D. Brown, Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; and one sister, Mrs. Sam Overfield, Mechanicsville. He is also survived by one grandson, Floyd E. Countryman, St. John, Mich., and one great grandchild.
