—Nathan Smith, a civil war veteran, dropped dead while participating in the Decorating day exercises at Monticello. He was marching to the cemetery with his comrades. The procession had just reached the outskirts of town when he suddenly fell forward. When his comrades picked him up he was dead.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 4, 1835 and died May 30, 1899. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
