Funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the Beam and Miller Funeral home for Charles Crane Gould, 81, who died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. L. Sheesley, Anamosa.

Rev. J. K. Delahooke conducted the rites. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery, with the Masonic lodge in charge of the service.

Casket bearers, all of whom are Masons, were W. H. Frazer, John Baumel, G. A. Turner, R. L. LaChapelle, W. G. Yount and Verne Purcell.

Mr. Gould was born at Friendsville, Ill, June 19, 1858. He received his earlier education in the district in which he lived, and later at the Academy at Anamosa.

On Oct. 3, 1876, he was married to Margaret Virginia Armour. The couple moved onto a farm, where they remained until 1880, when they moved to New Sharon, where Mr. Gould was employed by the Iowa Central railroad. On Dec. 1, 1898, he began working at the Men's reformatory at Anamosa. He worked there for more than 40 years, retiring in Sept. 1939.

Mr. Gould was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was at one time a member of a quartet which traveled with Billy Sunday, the famous evangelist. He was also affiliated with the Odd Fellow lodge for more than 50 years. He joined the Masonic order after coming to Anamosa.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Sheesley; one son, Armour Gould, Dubuque; and three grandchildren, J. Roy Sheesley and Betty and Mary Gould. Mrs. Gould died in 1938.
