January 6, 1944- The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. Sam Overfield, former Anamosan, died this week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Florence Jackson in Clinton.

Body was brought to the Loder Funeral home in Anamosa, where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Rev. J. K. Delahooke will officiate.

Burial will be in the family lot at Riverside cemetery.

Service for Evelyn Brown Overfield was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Loder's Fuenral home. Rev. J. K. Delahooke had charge of the service. Burial was at Riverside cemetery. Casket bearers were J. C. Porter, Howard Porter, Charles Healy, Leigh Pearson, Henry Dorgeloh and Ren Finnigan.

Evelyn Brown Overfield, daughter of the late George and Mary Brown, was born in Jones county, Feb. 13, 1862, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Andrews, Clinton, Jan. 5, 1944, at the age of 81 years.

As Evelyn Brown, she grew to womanhood in the county of her birth where she was married to the late William O. Jackells on May 11, 1879. To this union two daughters were born, who with a daughter of Mr. Jackells, survive. She was later married to S. D. Overfield and to this union a son was born, who also survives.

Her entire life was spent in Jones county. It was during a visit with her daughter in Clinton that she was taken ill and died last Wednesday. Mrs. Overfield was a life long member of the Episcopal church.

Surviving are her husband, her daughters, Delia, Florence and a step-daughter, Mina; one son, Elmer; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
