6 June 1940 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service was held Thursday at the Methodist church in Anamosa for Linus L. Ireland, who died at his home on May 28. Rev. J. K. Delahooke was in charge of the service. Burial was made in Antioch cemetery.

Mr. Ireland, the son of Purviance and Rebecca Ireland, was born at Urbana, Ill., on June 22, 1854. In the spring of 1866 his family moved from Illinois and settled on a farm in Jones county.

As a young man, Mr. Ireland married and established his own home, and until his retirement, followed the occupation of farming. It was on May 26, 1877, that he married Miss Jennie S. Hamilton. To this union nine children were born, seven of whom survive. Two small daughters, Minnie Mae and Beulah Belle, preceeded him in death.

In 1911 he moved to Wyoming, retiring from the farm. Here he united with the Presbyterian church. In 1922 he came to Anamosa, and joined the Methodist church, of which he was an active member. He was also an active member of the Anamosa Knights of Pythias lodge.

Mr. Ireland is survived by his wife, Jennie Ireland; six daughters, Mrs. Effie McGuire and Mrs. Alice Thomsen, Wyoming; Mrs. Lettie Bender, Vinton; Mrs. Millie Buckholtz, Burns, Wyo.; Mrs. Viola DeMoss, Lost Nation, and Mrs. Grace Webster, Anamosa, one son, Roy Ireland, Martelle; one brother, Schuyler, Martelle; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Leek, Huron, S. Dak., and 18 grandchildren.
