OLIN--Court M. Miles, 86, Olin, died Friday, Nov. 30, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 2, at 1:30 p.m., at Evangelical United Brethren church, Olin. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, officiated at the services. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.
Family prayer service was held at the Hayden Funeral home, Olin, at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
Pallbearers included James Remley, Arno Lawson, Willard Hoyman, Eddie Soper, William Kell and Maynard Gordon.
He was born Oct. 30, 1876, son of Orson and Maria Deming Miles, Stanwood. He grew to manhood in the Olin vicinity and attended public schools of the area; Cornell college, Mount Vernon, and State Teachers college, Dixon, Ill.
June 10, 1901, he was married to Ola Mae Rummell, at Olin. He organized a rural mail route out of Olin in the early 1900's and continued to serve the patrons of the route for 30 years.
He had served as mayor of the town of Olin for several terms, and also as a Justice of the Peace, which office he still held at the time of his death. He had also served for many years as an appraiser for the State Inheritance commission and as a member of the board of tax revenue.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Lucille Martin, Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, Frederick E. Miles, Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Donald L. Martin and Melvin R. Martin, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Craig M. Curtis and Carol Miles, all of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Emery Miles, Pomona, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife, both his parents, a brother, Mills Miles; and another brother who died in infancy.
