Funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon in St. Paul's American Lutheran church for Louis Herman Schafer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schafer, residing north of Anamosa, who died last Thursday.
Louis Herman Schafer was born June 4, 1941, in Castle Grove township, Jones county. His baptism was on June 26, 1921, and his confirmation on August 23, 1936, first in St. Peter and Paul church in Castle Grove by Rev. Michael Scherf and the latter in St. Paul's American Lutheran church, Anamosa by Rev. A. Mathias.
Boyhood years of his young man were occupied by attending school in District No. 5, assisting his parents and brothers in the daily tasks on the home farm.
On March 17, he entered Mercy hospital as a patient where his condition, at first satisfactory, turned alarmingly worse on Sunday.
Surviving are his parents; three brothers, Ernest Schafer, Anamosa; Johannes Schafer, in the armed service, San Francisco, Calif., and Walter Schafer, at home.
Miss Esther Harms and Wilma Schrader, George Wessels and David Buesing sang: "In An Hour of Hallowed Peace" and "Jesus, Savior Pilot Me." Casket bearers were Junior Edwards, Gerret Kray, Ray Larson, Alvin Lubben, Albert and Carl Oltmanns.
