26 July 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

CENTER JUNCTION--Jones county's second traffic fatality of 1962 was recorded Monday July 23, when tractor driven by Arnold Leon Thomsen, 36, Center Junction, collided with a car driven by Kenneth Dale Fischer, 34, Maquoketa.

Thomsen died instantly with a crushed chest, according to Patrolman Kenneth Carter, Monticello.

Fischer and his daughter, Jane Ann, 2, were not injured in the accident.

Fatal accident occurred two miles east of Center Junction on the Center Junction-Onslow road Monday, at 4:15 p.m.

Patrolman carter stated that the tractor, belonging to Jack Smith, Center Junction, made a left turn and collided with the Fischer car which was traveling west.

Tractor was upset, pinning Thomsen beneath, according to Carter.

Services were held at the Sacred Heart church, Oxford Junction, Thursday, at 9:30 a.m., with Rev. Joseph Kissling performing Mass. Interment was in the Mayflower cemetery, Oxford Junction.

Junior choir under direction of Mrs. Anna Lasack provided music for the service.

Thomsen was born Sept. 24, 1925, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Thomsen, at Lockhart, Minn. He came to this area as a small boy, and has lived in Olin, Center Junction and Onslow. He served in the United States Navy, and received a Purple Heart decoration.

He was married to Marjorie Stowers Keegan at Oxford Junction Sacred Heart church, July 2, 1947.

Survivors include his wife, five sons and four daughters, his mother, four sisters and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his father, one son, two daughters and a brother.
