Funeral service for Lloyd Hayden, 46, who died at the Veterans' hospital in Des Moines last Friday morning, was held at the Beam and Miller Funeral chapel Monday morning. Rev. Holmberg officiated with burial in Holy Cross cemetery.

Lloyd E. Hayden, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Hayden, Viola, was born at Viola April 7, 1896. He spent his entire life in Linn and Jones counties with the exception of one year in North Dakota.

He attended rural school in Jones county and a year at Anamosa. For the last three years he had been engaged in selling Wallace's Farmer in Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota. Mr. Hayden was married June 19, 1920 to Margaret McGovern at Stone City. Couple had six children all of whom are living.

Lloyd Hayden was a veteran of World war I, having been inducted into the service Sept. 21, 1917. He trained at Camp Cody, N. Mex., until he became ill with dust pneumonia and was discharged upon partial recovery. He never fully recovered because of the heart condition it caused, which along with bronchial pneumonia resulted in his death.

Survivors are his six children, Joe E. and Don, Viola; Rosemary, Anamosa; Ellsworth, a member of the Marines now stationed at Great Lakes, Chicago; and Marjorie and June, Iowa City. Also surviving are his parents, Viola; one brother, Joseph D., Boulder, Colo.; and three sisters, Mrs. Lee Finn, Central City; Mrs. Grace McCann, Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Earl Grim, Anamosa. His wife preceded him in death in 1938.

Military service was held at Holy Cross cemetery where burial took place. Color bearers were L. L. Doolittle and Nick Joura. Firing squad consisted of Charles A. Rahn, Leigh Pearson, William Shugart, Lloyd Robertson, Ludwig Yanda, O. A. Rife, Ralph Miller and Alfred Snyder with James White commanding. A. J. Ament sounded taps.

Casketbearers were Charles Tyler, Oscar Story, Frank Dutcher, Henry Mere, Norman Bickel and Forest Fulwider, all veterans of World war I.
