December 27, 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

WYOMING--Mrs. John Amend, 61, Wyoming, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 28, at 1:30 p.m., at the Wallace Brothers Funeral home, Wyoming.

Survivors include her husband, one son and three daughters.

WYOMING--Funeral services for Mrs. John Amend, 61, were held Friday, Dec. 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace Funeral home in Wyoming.

She died at Mercy hospital in Anamosa on Christmas day, Dec. 25, 1962

Rev. Wayne Norris was clergyman. Mrs. Walter Sullivan was organist and accompanied Walter Sullivan, soloist. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.

Casketbearers were Lowell Anderson, Wayne Anderson, Douglas Anderson, Keith Weasmer, David Peer, Max Parmer.

Mrs. Mabel Amend was born Aug. 28, 1901, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cook. She resided in Jones county all of her life except for three years spent in Rock Island, Ill. Mrs. Amend received her formal education in the Hale and Wyoming public schools.

She was united in marriage to John C. Amend at Anamosa on Feb. 8, 1922. Four children were born to this union.

Couple opened their farm home east of Onslow to nieces and nephews, as the need presented itself. She received her early Christian training in the fellowship of the Wyoming Presbyterian church.

Surviving are: her husband; her children, Ruth Mae, Mrs. Willard Hubler, West Branch; Marian, Mrs. Ernest Kunde, Tipton; Helen, Mrs. Walter Wood, who is en route from Belton, Mo., to Tripoli, North Africa; and Bob, at home.

Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Oberle, Mrs. Helen Rearick and Mrs. Maxine Vittengl, along with 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth.
