3 May 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

Herman F. Folkerts, 71, Anamosa, died Tuesday, May 1, following a brief illness, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. LaVerne Beener will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers include Eugene Meehan, Jack Leonard, Victor Knight, Ray Peters, Eugene Chadwell and Leo Stutt.

Mrs. M. W. Frederick will be organist. Glenn Brokaw will be soloist.

He was born Oct. 23, 1890, son of Harm Folkerts and Marie Husmann Folkerts, Scotch Grove. He was married to Emma Henricks, Dec. 20, 1916, in Wayne township, Monticello.

He farmed in Jones county until 1934 when he moved to the present farm near Anamosa. He was employed by Jones county road maintenance for nine years and the state highway commission for 19 years, before his retirement in 1960.

Survivors include his wife, Emma; one son, Roy, Anamosa; one daughter, Delite, Mrs. James Honn, Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Alva Zimmerman, Monticello; Mrs. Arend Balster and Mrs. William Henrichs, Scotch Grove, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
