August 23, 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. A. A. Burkey, 65, Anamosa, died unexpectedly on Friday evening, Aug. 17, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Lee Hobel officiated at the service. Burial was in Antioch cemetery.

Pallbearers were her sons and sons-in-law.

Mrs. Barney Barnest and Mrs. Marvin Hughes were vocalists. Richard Stanaway was organist.

She was born Tressa M. Heath, Jan. 2, 1897, daughter of Rush Heath and Matilda Finch Heath, Monmouth. She was married Dec. 24, 1915, to S. A. Burkey, at Maquoketa. Couple made their home on a farm in Jones county before moving to Anamosa in 1943.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Bernard, Silvis, Ill.; Blaine, Anamosa; Donald, Cedar Rapids; Jack, Anamosa; two daughters, Betty, Mrs. Loren Remington; and Jean, Mrs. Lyle Hall, both of Anamosa.

Others include one sister, Mrs. Minnie Pyle, Sesser, Ill., and 16 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children, two brothers and two sisters.
