15 November 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

OLIN--Henry Kruse, for many years a resident of Hale, died on Sunday, Nov. 4, at his home at 1212 Ginter Ave., Iowa City, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Wallace Funeral home, Wyoming. Rev. John Schlosser officiated at the services.

Masonic services were conducted by Warren Rees, Anamosa. Music was furnished by Gary Oster, Oxford Junction. Interment was in the Wyoming cemetery.

He was born in Schleswig, Germany, March 20, 1867, and came to America with his parents at the age of three years. Family settled in Lyons, Iowa. After finishing school, he was associated with the Joyce Lumber Co., Clinton, for many years.

His parents purchased a farm, adjacent to Hale, and he returned home and established the firm of Mills and Kruse, livestock dealers. Later he purchased a lumber yard at Hale.

He was married Aug. 22, 1897, to Kathryn Duncan. Couple established their home on a farm known as Airy Knoll. He had served as a trustee of Hale township and secretary of the school board for many years. He had also served on the board of supervisors of Jones county.

Although he retained his membership in the Lutheran church, Clinton, he served many years in the various offices of the Hale Methodist church. He was a member of the Ancient Landmark Masonic lodge, Olin; a 32nd degree Mason of the Iowa consistory, and of El Kahir Shrine temple, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Helen Kruse Larson, Iowa City; one son, Gerald Kruse, Olin; four grandsons, James K. Larson, Davenport; Robert H. Larson, Iowa City; Dr. Steven Kruse, Slater, and Sidney C. Kruse, Olin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
