WYOMING--Jerry Rathje, 72, died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Monday morning, after a lingering illness. Mr. Rathje was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, coming to Cook county, Ill., when 18 years old, to work on a farm.

He was married to Henrietta Martensen June 12, 1895 and the home until her death in 1917, was made on farms in Clinton, Jones and Chickasaw counties. He retired to his present home in Wyoming, when the son took over the farm duties.

He is survived by two daughters and one son, Anna, Mrs. Arthur Jansen; Alice, Mrs. Raymond Holtz, and Herman Rathje, all of Wyoming and two granddaughters. A son, John, died in 1918, while in service in a camp in Georgia.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Harrington Funeral home in Wyoming with the Rev. H. Graening, pastor of the Lutheran church in charge.
