OLIN--Jay McCormick, 80, died Sunday, June 10, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an unexpected illness.

A Prayer service was held Wednesday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m., at the home of his son, Arlo, followed by services at Campbell Funeral home, Olin, at 2 p.m. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, Olin, officiated at the services.

Masonic services were held by Ancient Landmark lodge, No. 200, of Olin. Burial was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers included John McCormick, Willard McCormick, Merle Sylvester, Harlan Bizler, Peter Sieveka and Dillon Story.

Linda Sharon was pianist.

He was born July 20, 1881, son of John A. and Charlotte Sherman McCormick, near Olin. He attended the Olin school where he graduated from high school in 1899. Following high school graduation he attended Cornell college, Mount Vernon, and then Highland Park college, Des Moines, where he graduated in 1908 with a degree in electrical engineering.

Following graduation he worked as a surveyor, helping do some of the original survey of the territory in the state of Washington. He also farmed for a time and also worked as a road construction contractor.

Sept. 11, 1911, he was married to Audrey Bizler in the Presbyterian church, Clarence. He had been a member of Ancient Landmark lodge A.F.&A.M. since 1909. He was also a member of Hiawatha chapter 394, Order of Eastern Star, Olin, for 50 years, and a member of the Olin Methodist church since 1912.

Survivors include a son, Arlo McCormick, Olin; a daughter, Mrs. Eileen Mardorf, Anamosa; three grandchildren; one brother, James McCormick, Lucas, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1953 and two brothers.
