David H. Sherrill was born February 13, 1828, at Eaton Madison Co., N. Y. He was married to Caroline Elisabeth Hunt Dec. 28, 1848. Two children were born to them: Alice, who died at the age of four years and Charles, who survives his father. The mother died in northern Illinois in 1853.

He was remarried to Lydia E. Houck on Feb. 8, 1858. Seven children were born to them, three sons dying infancy and one daughter, Hattie, dying in 1888, at the age of 26 years, in Kansas City of Typhoid fever. Three sons of this marriage survive their father; Samuel, William and Lewis. The mother died suddenly of heart disease, on April 25, 1895, at their old home in Madison Township, Jones Co., Ia.

He was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Cooper April 20, 1899, by whom he was nursed with tender care through his last illness which resulted from a fall the 30th day pf January, which in spite of all that loving care could do for him, resulted fatally. His death occurred Feb. 19, 1901. He was of a jovial disposition and counted among his friends all who knew him well. Her moved from Wyoming, Iowa, to Marion about the time of his death.

The funeral was held at their home Feb. 20th. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. L. Platt of Central City assisted by Elder J. G. Encell and Rev. N. Pye. The remains were taken to Wyoming, Feb. 21st, and short services were held at the Methodist Church, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery there.
