24 August 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

OLIN--Fred Biere, 83, Olin, died Monday, Aug. 21, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following several weeks illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. L. C. Beener officiated at the services. Burial was in the Olin cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included Henry Biere, jr., Norman Biere, Howard Biere, Raymond Biere, Merle Eiler and Ernest Goldsmith.

Mrs. William Hamilton was organist. Dan Petrucelli, grandson of the deceased, was soloist.

He was born April 22, 1878, at Landesborgen, Hanover, Germany. He came to the United States with his uncle, Henry Biere, sr., in 1883. He had made his home in the Olin vicinity.

He was married to Lizzie Goldsmith Dec. 13, 1900, at Olin. Couple farmed in Cedar and Jones county. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church and Ancient Landmark lodge, No. 200, A.F.A.M.

He had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Hansen, Olin, since the death of his wife, Feb. 4, 1957.

Survivors include three sons, Arthur, Rockford, Ill.; Ernest, Anamosa; and Wilford, Bettendorf; and a daughter, Pauline, Mrs. Johnnie Hansen, Olin.

Others include two half-sisters, Mrs. Lena Bushing, Clarence; and Mrs. Walter Lehrman, Stanwood; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Beside his wife he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one half-brother and two half-sisters.
