MORLEY--Mrs. Matthew C. Simons, former Jones county resident, died Nov. 4 at Vancouver, Wash., after a brief illness of pneumonia. She was 71 years old.

Born Cora Eliza Learned, daughter of P. J. and Pheobe Miller Learned, in Dearborn county, Indiana, Jan. 5, 1871. In the year 1879 she came with her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. John Cunningham to the Amber vicinity where she grew to womanhood. On July 5, 1885 she was united in marriage to Peter Peterson. Their married life was spent on farms in Wayne and Jackson townships and at Hawkeye. In 1921, they retired from the active duties of farming and moved to Chicago where the husband died Nov. 8, 1922. Since then her home has been at Colorado Springs, Colo., and also at Vancouver, Wash. In April, 1940, she as married to Matthew C. Simons.

Mrs. Simons in early life was affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church in Amber, later becoming a member of the Glad Tidings tabernacle in Vancouver. She is survived by her husband, M. C. Simons, a son, James Peterson, Bismark, N.Dak., six daughters, Mrs. Ella Austin, Morley; Mrs. Blanche Alexander, Columbia, Mo.; Mrs. Adde Lee, Hawkeye; Mrs. Tillie Kanelas, Mrs. Isobel Smith Beaker and Mrs. Crystal White, all of Chicago. There are also 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Memorial service was held at the Glad Tiding tabernacle in Vancouver, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. J. J. Hicks officiating. Commitment was at Lincoln Memorial cemetery at Portland, Ore.
