GEORGE EDWARD SHAFFER

Death comes with reckless footsteps
To hall and hut
Time like an ever rolling stream
Bears all its sons away

George Edward Shaffer, son of Wesley and Alice Mary Shaffer, was born in Jones County, Iowa, November 25, 1872 and passed from the scenes of this life suddenly on October 26, 1920, at his home two miles south of Anamosa at the early age of almost 28 years.

On January 3, 1903, he was married to Sarah Wells at Anamosa, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Clifford Shaffer, Richard Delbert and ? Vern who with the mother remain to comfort one another in this bereavement. He also leaved four sisters and one brother namely Mrs. ? Mutfield of Morley, Eva ? of Mason City, Leafa and Valley of Mason City and Jennie of ?, Minn. and a brother Frank Shaffer of Mason City,

(Most of this paragraph is difficult to read) the wintry storms of life. Mr. Shaffer had not been feeling his natural self for some time and thus his end came under the cloud of inward mental distress leading to his hasty act. We must all bear up under the lot which happens to be ours, gaining this assurance that we are not alone in our sorrow and have the sympathy of our earthly friends and our heavenly Father.

Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. S. V. Williams and internment in the Anamosa Riverside Cemetery on Thursday, Oct 28.
