December 17, 1942 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. Ella Lusk, 78, died sometime Friday, Dec. 11, at her home, but was not found until the next morning when her brother, Frank Grafft, and a neighbor decided that there was something wrong when they could get no answer, and forced entry.

Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 14, at the Smykil Funeral chapel, with Rev. J. K. Delahooke of the Methodist church in charge. Burial was in the Green church cemetery.

Mrs. Ella Grafft Lusk, daughter of Davis and Christinana Grafft, was born in Jones county, Oct. 5, 1864. She grew to womanhood in the county of her birth, and for several years taught a rural school in Jackson township.

On Jan. 30, 1899, she was united in marriage to J. W. Lusk, Anamosa. For several years their home was made in Cherokee and Cedar Rapids, and later on a farm near Morley.

In 1916, Mr. and Mrs. Lusk moved from the farm to Anamosa. Mr. Lusk died on April 20, 1927.

Mrs. Lusk was a member of the Rebekah lodge and the Baptist church, Anamosa. She was always an active participant until her failing health made it impossible for her to attend.

She is survived by her brother, Frank Grafft, Anamosa, her niece, Mrs. Hal Gilmore, Anamosa, and four nephews.
