18 January 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

Raleigh Leander Shoop, 76, Anamosa, died Sunday, Jan. 14, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, Olin, officiated at the services. Interment was in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa. Prayer service was held at the family home, Anamosa, at 1:45 p.m.

Pallbearers included Fred Bunting, Delbert Grafft, Harlan Schumaker, Leonard Streets, Richard Shaffer and Harold Hartman.

Mrs. William Hamilton was organist. Robert Bainbridge and Donald Brokaw were vocalists.

He was born July 7, 1885, son of Leander and Adella Bates Shoop, Fairview township. He was married on Feb. 20, 1908, to Bertha Grafft at the home of the bride's parents.

Couple moved to a farm in the Forrest community where they made their home until moving to Anamosa 16 years ago. In addition to farming he had been a representative for the E. M. Peet Co., Council Bluffs, for over 41 years. He was a member of Forest Chapel E.U.B.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha; two daughters, Laverta, Mrs. Carl Hay, Waterloo, and Lucille, Mrs. Richard Darrow, Olin; one brother, Cassius "Cash" Shoop, Anamosa.

Others include three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Kohl, Martelle; Mrs. Blanche Russell, Mechanicsville; and Mrs. Lillian Green, Corvallis, Oreg.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
