MARTELLE--Marion Francis Emerson, Martelle, died Wednesday at 3 p.m. at his home in Martelle at the age of 71. Mr. Emerson, who came to Martelle as dispatcher for the Milwaukee railroad in 1902 and was promoted to agent in 1907, had worked until a month ago, March 7.

Funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Smykil Home for Funerals in Anamosa. Rev. L. C. Smith, former Methodist minister at Martelle, will read the service. Burial will be in Norwich cemetery at Martelle.

Mr. Emerson was born June 27, 1871 at Humboldt, Kan., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Emerson. On Nov. 15, 1899, he married Nellie G. Halterman at Marion, Iowa. In 1902, they moved to Martelle where they have made their home since.

Mr. Emerson was active in the Methodist church at Martelle, having served as superintendent of the Sunday school and teaching classes.

Mr. Emerson's son entered the Milwaukee employ. Darrell E. Emerson, lives at home and commutes to Marion where he is a dispatcher. Robert Emerson is agent for the Milwaukee at Delhi.

Daughters who survive are: Mrs. R. W. Dunmire, Elkhart, Ind.; Mrs. George Howe, Chicago; Mrs. Godfred Banwell, Wells, Minn. There is one grandson, James Banwell.

Other survivors besides Mrs. Emerson are one brother, Elmer Emerson, Toronto, Kan., and one sister, Mrs. Clyde Felewelling, Los Angeles, Calif.
