Cadel Dale N. Smith, 24, son of Mrs. W. O. Blake and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey Henriksen, Anamosa, was killed Monday morning about 9 a.m. in the crash of an army training plane on a ranch 12 miles southwest of Brady, Texas. His instructor, C. R. Conway, was injured.

Lacking only a week of getting his commission in the army air corps, Cadet Smith enlisted in April 28 in Omaha, Neb., where he had been employed since 1938 by the Federal Land Bank. He was stationed at White field, an auxiliary to Curtis field at Brady.

Funeral service is being held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Marion. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa.

Born Nov. 3, 1917 in Anamosa, the boy moved to Marion with his parents when he was an infant. He was graduated from Marion high school in 1934.

At Coe college, Cedar Rapids, he was graduated with honors, was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, honorary scholastic sorority, and was a member of the football and track squads.

He is survived by his mother, one brother, Raymond L. Blake, Des Moines; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henriksen and Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Fuller, Marion.
