Funeral service for Mrs. H. V. Powers, 76, who died Friday morning at her home after an illness of several weeks, was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church with Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple in charge. Smykil Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial was in the family lot at Wilcox cemetery, Viola.

During the service Mrs. Glen Russell and Mrs. V. P. Owen sang two songs, favorites of Mrs. Powers, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Sometime We'll Understand." Casketbearers were her four sons and two sons-in-law, Ray, Edward, Harold and Fred Powers, R. L. LaChapelle and H. H. Sunderlin.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Richmond, Mrs. Powers was born in Woodstock, Ill., Aug. 25, 1865, but came to America with her parents at the age of three months and lived here continuously since that time. She was united in marriage to Harrison V. Powers on Aug. 28, 1884, who preceded her in death in 1927.

Mrs. Powers was a member of the Congregational church and of the Women's association and for 13 years was a chairman of one of the divisions of the society. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekahs and a past president of the Women's Relief Corps.

She is survived by four sons, Ray, Edward and Fred, all Anamosa, and Harold, Huntington, W.Va.; four daughters, Mrs. R. L. LaChapelle, Anamosa, Mrs. Ray Boxwell, Geraldine, Mont., Mrs. H. H. Sunderlin, Peoria, Ill. and Mrs. H. M. Stoddard, Minneapolis, Minn.; 22 grand children, three sisters, Mrs. Addie Larson and Mrs. J. A. Howe, Anamosa, Mrs. H. H. Pratt, Arkansas City, Kan., and one brother, Frank, Viola.

The sudden death of one daughter, Mrs. E. H. Richman, on May 9, 1940, was a severe shock to her and she never seemed to recover from it.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Ray Boxwell, Geraldine, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Sunderlin, Peoria, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Stoddard, E. H. Richman, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Powers, Huntington, W.Va.; Mrs. Carrie Lord, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Howe, Marion; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Howe, Cedar Rapids, Mable and James Chyma, Tama, and Mr. and Mrs. George Gunnison, Walker.
