March 7, 1963 - The Anamosa Eureka

MINNESOTA--Mrs. Edward Waln, 76, Wadena, Minn., former resident of Anamosa, died Monday, Feb. 18, following a lingering illness, at Wesley hospital, Wadena.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Congregational church, Wadena. Interment was in Memorial cemetery.

She was born Frances Mae Baum, Dec. 3, 1886, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baum, Anamosa. She was married to Edward Waln, Marion, on March 1, 1911.

She graduated from the Anamosa high school in 1906. She was a former member of the Anamosa Congregational church.

Couple made their home on a farm for many years in the Martelle area, later moving to Minnesota where they were engaged in farming in the Wadena and Verndale areas. Following their retirement 20 years ago they had made their home in Wadena. Couple celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary two years ago.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Charles Gailord, Staples; George Merlin, Francis Edward and Samuel J., Wadena; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Lucia Thurston, Wadena; and 12 grandchildren.

Others include five sisters, Mrs. Elmyra Joslin, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Nellie Capaske and Mrs. Lois Parson, Bethel, Minn.; Mrs. Wilma Marsha. Osseo, Minn.; and Mrs. Grace Leuder, Anamosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John William and Charles Wellington.
