July 10, 1941 - The Anamosa Journal

Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Jay S. Condit, former Anamosan, on June 18 at her home in Centralia, Kan. Mrs. Condit was the former Bertha Kratzer, daughter of the late Adam and Amelia Kratzer, and spent her early life in Anamosa.

Funeral service was conducted on June 20 at Centralia with Rev. T. K. Basworth, Douglass, Kan., officiating.

Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Harry Divelbiss, Pendelton, Ore., Mrs. William Lyons, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Gene Grier, St. Joseph, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Laura Knight, Chicago, Ill., a half-sister, Mrs. Pauline Abraham, Spokane, Wash.; two grandchildren, Dickie Lyons and Joyce Divelbiss; and a half-brother, Ralph Kratzer, Denver, Colo.

Mrs. Condit was a sister-in-law of Mrs. W. A. Hale, Anamosa, and an aunt of Marian and Florence Hale, Anamosa.

She was married on Nov. 20, 1901 to Jay S. Condit and the couple lived in Anamosa for eight years before moving to San Luis valley, Colo. In 1913 they moved to Centralia, Kan., where her remaining years were spent.
