June 12, 1941 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. Alonzo Burroughs died Thursday at 2:30 a.m. at her home eight miles north of Anamosa.

Funeral service, in charge of Loder's Funeral home, tentatively is set for Saturday afternoon.

June 19, 1941 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Catherine Stover Burroughs was held in the Congregational church on Saturday afternoon with Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple officiating.

Mrs. Burroughs, 77, died at her home eight miles north of Anamosa last Thursday at 2:30 a.m. following a month's illness.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carleton Brainard, Anamosa; a sister, Mrs. Mae Mollett, Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Frank Stover, Rock Island, Ill., and Hugh Stover, Anamosa; a granddaughter, June Brainard, and a nephew, Wilbur Stover.

Casket bearers were Lester Fairbanks, Burton Brown, Ray Appleberry, Thomas Stimpson, George Brainard and William Buckner. Burial was in Forest cemetery.

Mrs. Burroughs was born Sept. 4, 1863. On Feb. 26, 1902, she married Alonzo Burroughs. Mr. Burroughs preceded her in death in 1935. Most of Mrs. Burrough's life was spent in Forest and Cass townships.
