Burial service for John W. Gerber, 80, former Anamosan who died Dec. 10, 1940, at his home in Washington, D.C., was held Monday afternoon at Riverside cemetery.

Temporary interment was made Dec. 11 at the Abbey Mausoleum in Washington. Funeral service at Hysong's Funeral home there was in charge of Dr. F. J. Bohanan, rector of St. Paul's Episocpal church, Rock Creek parish.

Pallbearers included John E. Rhody, James Johnston, Edgar Beach, James Remley, Alfred Remley and Maurice Fay. Smykil's Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gerber, retired employe of Southern Railway, was born Feb. 9, 1860, at Anamosa, son of Jacob Gerber and Elizabeth Barnard Gerber. Entering the employ of the Southern Railway in 1895, he was transferred in 1903 to Washington and was made general storekeeper by the Southern in 1910, a position he held until his retirement in 1938 after 42 years of service.

He was a member of the Episcopal church, of Washington Centennial Masonic lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine orders in Washington, D.C., and was a member of Knights of Pythias lodge in Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Gerber is survived by his wife, the former Harriet Maldine Harvey, to whom he was married Nov. 17, 1886 in Anamosa; a daughter, Mrs. D. Harlow Reed, Washington, D.C. and a brother Harry H. Gerber, Los Angeles.
