29 June 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

MARTELLE--John Clifford Blayney, 78, Martelle, died Tuesday, June 27, at Anamosa Custodial home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 29 at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Irvin Patnode, Marion, officiated at the service. Burial was in the Green cemetery.

Pallbearers included Ivan Duncan, Roscoe Duncan, DeWayne Emerson, Darrell Blayney, Cecil Blayney and Tom Blayney.

He was born Oct. 21, 1882, son of Frank Blayney and Mary Grafft Blayney, Jones county. He was married Nov. 14, 1903, at Anamosa, to Elizabeth Patnode, Stone City. He lived his married life in the Martelle vicinity where he was engaged in farming and later in carpenter work.

Survivors include four sisters, Nora, Mrs. Dan Leonard, Long Beach, Calif.; Myrtle, Mrs. Earl Duncan, Olin; Mrs. Grace Gilmore, Des Moines; Mrs. Vera Emerson, Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Feb. 10, 1961; two brothers, Garland and Price Blayney, Anamosa; two sisters, Nellie Mallicoat and Lulu Whitmore.
