8 June 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

CASS--Herman H. Tapken, 58, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 6, at his home in Cass township.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, at 2 p.m., at Wayne Zion Lutheran church, rural Monticello. Rev. Otto Zwanziger will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa.

Pallbearers will be Edward Husman, Galen Brainard, Joe Teymer, John Gross, Raymond Sonley and Carl Cordes.

Music will be by Mrs. Herman Heigens and George Harms. George Reiken will be organist.

He was born April 19, 1903, son of John F. Tapken and Helena Ortgies Tapken, Castle Grove township. He was married to Emma Dirks on June 5, 1928. She preceded him in death on March 12, 1956. He married Mrs. Mabel Newhard Sept. 20, 1958.

He had made his home in Cass township almost his entire life. He was engaged in farming until 1950, and had worked at the Iowa State Men's Reformatory, Anamosa, for the last six years. He was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel; one daughter, Mrs. Dale Neunaber, Anamosa; three sons, Harvey Tapken, Scotch Grove, Richard Tapken, Anamosa; John Tapken, United States army, Fort Riley, Kans.; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Tapken, Monticello.

Other survivors include one brother, Louie Tapken, Anamosa; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred Ommen and Mrs. John Kray, both of Monticello; and eight grandsons.
