Bertha Louise Petersen, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 1979 at the Anamosa Community hospital following an illness of several months.

Services were held Friday, March 9 at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, conducted by Pastor James Mattson. Interment was in Wyoming Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn Soper, Irvin Sievers, Fred Petersen, Elmer Petersen, Harold Reese and Ray Rexroat.

Bertha was born on May 15, 1889 in Struble, Germany. The daughter of Peter and Marie Johansen Reese, and came to the United States at the age of 19. She went first to Illinois where she was employed for several years.

On January 31, 1917 Bertha was united in marriage to John M. Peterson near Wyoming. The couple farmed in Jones County until their retirement to Wyoming in 1947.

Bertha was an active member of the Eastern Star, The Wyoming Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband John; four children: Mrs. Velma Cruise of Olin, John (Hienie) Petersen of Wyoming, Mrs. Emma Beppler of Nekoosa, WI, and Robert D. Petersen of Olin; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one brother, William Reese of Olin.

She is preceded in death by one daughter, Ina Petten, in September of 1978; her parents; four sisters; five brothers and one grandchild.
