Funeral services for Grace M. Hawes, 65, were held at the Olin Methodist Church on Monday, Dec. 4, at 1:30 p.m. with Reverends Edward Peterson and Wilbur Wilcox in charge.

Hawes died Nov. 30, 1978, at Iowa City. She was born Jan. 9, 1913, at Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Jesse and Frances Wolf Turner.

She attended high school at University Parks Academy of John Fletcher College and later attended the college.

On Aug. 29, 1933, she married Lawrence Hawes near Sigourney. The couple served churches in South Dakota for five years and then in Iowa until 1977. She also worked as a stenographer-typist until 1954 when failing health forced her to remain at home. For the past 20 years she has been bedfast. The Hawes retired to Olin in 1977.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; three sons, Lester, Redfield, Stanley, Manilla, and Kenneth, Rockford; two sisters, Winnifred (Mrs. Richard) Wittig, Rolling Meadows, IL, and Shirley (Mrs. Wilson) Forbes, Council Bluffs; and 21 grandchildren.

Her parents, one sister and one brother preceded her in death.

Burial was in Olin Cemetery. Pall bearers were Merlin Ahrendsen, Dean Henderson, Clarence Taylor, Calvin Glenn, Ed Fall and Vernie Wood.

Haydens was in charge of the arrangements.
