Funeral services for Leola May Ahrendsen, 64, were held at the Hayden Funeral Home in Olin on Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Fred Richardson, of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, officiated at the services.

Ahrendsen passed away at the Anamosa Care Center on Oct. 25. She had been in ill health for several months.

Leola Ahrendsen was born on a farm near Hale on Feb. 10, 1914, the daughter of Claud and Sadie Wooder Sweet. Her mother died when Leola was a small child, and she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Chris Paulsen, Hale. She later attended the Hale Village School.

On Sept. 6, 1933, she married Henry Ahrendsen. They lived on a farm west of Hale for a few years, moving to Hale in 1939. Her husband died in 1971, and she continued to remain at the family home until three years ago when failing health caused her to retire to the Anamosa Care Center.

She is survived by two sons, Richard and Harold, Olin; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Sweet, Olin; and Leonard Sweet, Rodeo, CA; two half-brothers; and three half-sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, and half-brother and her husband.
