Mrs. Michael Flannigan died at the family residence in Washington Township, Jones County, on Tuesday at 4:30 a.m., at the ripe age of 81 years. She was one of the earliest settlers of that township, and a highly respected and popular woman.

Her maiden name was Mary Farrell, and she was born in County Langford, Ireland, in 1814. She came to the United States in the 30’s with her husband and settled in New York, but later relocated to Maryland. In 1842 in company with her husband came to Iowa, settled in Washington Township, and for 53 years had resided in that locality. During that long residence she witnessed many wonderful changes in the state in which she had settled before it was admitted to the Union.

She is survived by her venerable husband, Michael Flannigan, and five children: Charles Flannigan, James E. Flannigan, M. B. Flannigan, Mrs. George McQuillen, and Mrs. John J. Fagan.

The funeral was held at Temple Hill Wednesday, and was a very largely attended. Rev. W. J. Convery officiating.
