MONTICELLO- Paul Theodore Schuetz, 73, former Monticello mayor and retired banker, died Saturday, March 24, at John McDonald hospital, following an illness of several months.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 27, at St. John's Lutheran church, rural Monticello. Rev. Carl C. Gutekunst officiated at the services. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers included James Maurice, Louis Hanken, Robert Patton, Clarence Shaffer, Louis Morf and George Hoult.

He was born March 25, 1888, son of Louis and Marie Mueller Scheutz, Readfield, Wisc. He attended Accordia college and taught in Lutheran parochial schools at Newhall and Monticello.

He was employed as a bookkeeper and later joined the Jones County Trust and Saving bank as assistant cashier. He later was assistant cashier and vice-president of Monticello State bank. He retired five years ago after serving with Monticello banks for 40 years.

He was mayor of Monticello for two years, served as treasurer of the Jones County Fair Assn. for three years and as treasurer of the Lutheran Conference of Missouri Synod.

He was active in promoting sports in Monticello, especially baseball and later the Gun club. He serviced a number of years as treasurer and organist at St. John's Lutheran church.

April 16, 1914, he was married to Clara Hanken, Monticello.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sam H. and Robert P., Monticello; one brother, Rev. Henry Schuetz, Redondo Beach, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. A. J. Schulz, Necedah, Wisc., and three grandchildren.
