June 9, 1960 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. Elva E. Carter, 88, died unexpectedly at her home at 304 South Oak street, Anamosa, early Monday morning, June 6.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 8, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, of the E.U.B. church, Olin, officiated. Burial was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers were Allen Siebels, Robert W. Dirks, Albert Carlson, Joe E. Gorius, Harold Hartman and Albert Benadom.

She was born Jan. 19, 1872, daughter of John and Catherine Waggoner Hay, Antioch, Jackson township.

She was married Dec. 2, 1896, to Nathan Carter, at the Hay farm home. Couple farmed east of the Antioch community until 23 years ago when they moved to Anamosa.

Survivors include one brother, Charlie O. Hay, Morley, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1945; her parents and four sisters.
