April 7, 1960 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. Claude Stroud, 60, National City, Calif., former Anamosa resident died Tuesday, April 5, following a heart attack suffered on Sunday, April 3.

Funeral services were planned for Friday, April 8, at Benbough mortuary, San Diego, to be followed by cremation.

Mrs. Stroud was born Alice Mary Sherrill, March 27, 1900, youngest daughter of Ida and Lewis Sherrill, near Anamosa. She was married on May 15, 1919, to Claude W. Stroud, Anamosa. One son was born to this union.

She spent 25 years working in the Anamosa Journal, Anamosa Eureka, Cascade Pioneer and Monticello Express offices as a Linotype operator. In 1944 she moved to California where she was employed for the last 15 years as a Linotype operator and proof reader for the San Diego Evening Tribune.

She was a member of the Legion auxiliary of Anamosa.

Survivors include her husband, Claude, at home at 2522 National Ave., National City, Calif.; one son, Pfc. William D. Stroud, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Joan Stroud, California; 2 grandchildren, Lynda and Paula Stroud, Anamosa.

Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Mildred Mohr, Olin; three nieces, Mrs. Helen Harris, Lompoc, Calif.; Mrs. Betty Engleking, Olin; Mrs. Lorrine Ott, DeWitt; two nephews, John Willison, Bradley, Ill.; and James Mohr, Lisbon.
