OLIN -- Mrs. Maude Hayes, 76, died unexpectedly during the night Thursday, Jan. 14, at the home of her granddaughter, Ann, Mrs. Arthur Pugh, Columbus Junction. Mrs. Hayes had been hospitalized with the flu from Dec. 27 to Jan. 5. She was in a weakened condition but was released the hospital and seemed to be making a satisfactory recovery.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2 p.m., at the Stacy Funeral home, Columbus Junction, with burial at the Greene cemetery, near Morley.

Maude Isabelle Fowler, second child of Frank and Myra Runnels Fowler, was born July 17, 1883, at Pacific Junction, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Wilbert L. Hayes on Nov. 4, 1903, at Pacific Jucntion, after which they farmed near Kellerton and Pacific Junction, and near Alvo, Ashland, and Ceresco, Nebr.

They adopted a daughter, Blanche Opal, while living near Alvo, April, 1910. Family moved near Olin in August 1926. Mr. Hayes passed away Feb. 23, 1934. Mrs. Hayes worked at various housekeeping jobs after Mr. Hayes death and spent sometime with her daughter, Mrs. Harry Zaruba. Mrs. Hayes spent the last 12 years at Fredonia, Iowa. Her daughter, Blanche, Mrs. Harry Zaruba died Dec. 27, 1956.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Vera Basel, Ceresco, Nebr.; and Mrs. June Inda, Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Lee Zaruba, Lone Tree; Mrs. Ann Pugh, Mrs. Jean Bell and Mike Zaruba, Columbus Junction. Seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Those from Olin attending the funeral were Mrs. Newton Hollingsworth, a sister-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. Newton Hollingsworth, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hollingsworth, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Nellie May Glick, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Lyon, Charles Kline; Mrs. Eva Fisher and Mrs. Marvin Fisher.

Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. Frank Zaruba, Morley, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Coppess, Olin, aunts and uncles of the grandchildren, served supper to the relatives at the Zaruba home following the funeral.
